Form: Line

The imaginary line
A line is a mark made by an instrument as it moves across a surface. It does not exist in nature — artists invented the line to help simplify visual facts and represent graphic ideas. Lines can not only define the edges of a form, but also indicate movement, weight, and emotion. In the hands of a gifted artist, lines can create texture, color, light and darks, and shape.
